Here’s today’s Risby Open Match Result…
Saturday 14th October 2023.
Hopes of a good day’s fishing were dashed by heavy rain the day before and very cold overnight temperatures.
The windchill made the pegs on the Folly bank absolutely freezing, but for the lucky few in the 20’s to 30’s, (a.k.a. “Benidorm Bank”), the sun shone most of the day and it didn’t feel too bad.
Robbo won the match with a decent weight of 62lbs 8oz off peg 25. Robbo fished the first 3 hours of the match on the waggler with corn on the hook, set at full depth. Initially he had a run of skimmers followed by 5 goldfish and a couple of carp. Robbo then switched to maggot on the pole at 14m to take a few more carp and some better skimmers.
In 2nd place was Dennis Smith with 44lbs 8oz. Dennis had 4 lovely carp for 37lbs 6oz and 7lbs 2oz of mixed silvers.
In 3rd place was Mark Mags with 42lbs 2oz off peg 20. Mags fished the pole tight to the dam wall at 14m with corn on the hook.
In 4th place was Willy Eyre with 36lbs 8oz off peg 7. Willy caught carp on the method and a few silvers on the pole.
Most of the other anglers had between 25lbs and 34lbs, so although the weights were down on recent weeks, it was still a close match.
