Here’s today’s Risby Open Match Result…
Saturday 14th October 2023.
Hopes of a good day’s fishing were dashed by heavy rain the day before and very cold overnight temperatures.
The windchill made the pegs on the Folly bank absolutely freezing, but for the lucky few in the 20’s to 30’s, (a.k.a. “Benidorm Bank”), the sun shone most of the day and it didn’t feel too bad.
Robbo won the match with a decent weight of 62lbs 8oz off peg 25. Robbo fished the first 3 hours of the match on the waggler with corn on the hook, set at full depth. Initially he had a run of skimmers followed by 5 goldfish and a couple of carp. Robbo then switched to maggot on the pole at 14m to take a few more carp and some better skimmers.
In 2nd place was Dennis Smith with 44lbs 8oz. Dennis had 4 lovely carp for 37lbs 6oz and 7lbs 2oz of mixed silvers.
In 3rd place was Mark Mags with 42lbs 2oz off peg 20. Mags fished the pole tight to the dam wall at 14m with corn on the hook.
In 4th place was Willy Eyre with 36lbs 8oz off peg 7. Willy caught carp on the method and a few silvers on the pole.
Most of the other anglers had between 25lbs and 34lbs, so although the weights were down on recent weeks, it was still a close match.

Result from yesterday’s Risby Open on Folly.
Steve, (Pully), Pulford won with a great weight of 160:00lbs off peg 20.
Pully caught mainly carp, with a few skimmers, ide and perch on the pole at 16m with maggots on the hook.
Robbo was 2nd with another great net of fish totalling 114:02lbs off peg 17.
Shane Butcher was 3rd with 79lbs off peg 27.
Willy Eyre was 4th with 70lbs off peg 3…
There were several good back-up weights with a few 60’s & some 50’s.

On a bit of a strange day, fish fed well early in the match for most of the lads, then for most of the anglers, they shut up shop until the last 2 hours or so.
That being said, it was a really tight match with just a few pounds separating 2nd and 5th place.

22/4/23…
A cold, occasionally wet and quite windy day looked like the fishing may suffer a bit, but thankfully the Folly still fished really well… Especially for Tony Ward and StePHen Pulford on corner pegs 23 and 20 respectively.
Tony caught steady throughout the day ending up with a lovely net of carp ranging from a few ounces to 9lbs.
His total winning weight was 109lbs.
Pully was runner-up up with 93lbs and had to rely on catching 25lbs of silvers, (including 4 nice ide, a load of roach, a few skimmers and a big perch), to boost his weight and keep the bites coming.
3rd Robbo 56lbs, peg 9.
4th Willy Eyre 52lbs, peg 7.

Silvers Match
1st Robbo 32lbs, (all skimmers, ranging from 8oz to 2.5lbs on corn over micros).
2nd Pully 25lbs.
3rd Rich Willey 23:08, peg 29.
4th Mike Walker 23:02, peg 3.

8th April Result:

Willy was 1st pick in the “rover” & made the most of his first choice of pegs by going on in-form peg 1.

Willy alternated between the pole and the tip to land 24 carp, ranging from a few ounces to 7lbs for his winning 98lbs.

2nd, Robbo, 70lbs, peg 17.

3rd was Mike Clarke on peg 20, with 64lbs.

4th Tony Ward, peg 3, 52lbs.
