Saturday 24th August, Risby Open, Folly

Strong winds & heavy overnight rain made the going a bit tough for the “Risby Match Regulars”.
Winner on the day with a reasonable total of 70lbs was StePHen (Pully) Pulford off peg 18.
Pully had a steady run of skimmers early on by fishing expanders at 6m, which totalled approx 25lbs. He then changed to maggot on the inside and despite losing a few foul-hooked fish, he landed 5 lumps that went 45lbs.
2nd was Robbo with 46lbs of peg 27.
3rd was Nick Peat with 42lbs off peg 14.

Hopefully things will be much better for this week’s open on 31st August. For further information about the match, please contact Robbo on 07834 275278.

Open matches are being held each and every Saturday from the 21st of September right through to the end of April 2025.

Risby Open Match 20th April 2024

Here’s yesterday’s penultimate Risby Open Match Result

Saturday 20th April 2024 on Folly.

As expected,  the recent cold snap affected sport badly, with very few skimmers being caught, along with only the occasional carp on “Benidorm Bank”, (pegs 23 to 31), too.

That being said Jason Moody had a lovely day’s fishing off end peg 7. Jason had a lovely net of carp totalling 107lbs 4oz plus 24lbs 8oz of skimmers and roach for his winning total of 131:12. Jason caught carp from his left hand margin and straight in front of him. He had carp ranging from some of the new stockies to fish into low double figures.

Result…

1st Jason Moody, end peg 7, 131lbs.

2nd Pully, peg 18, 73lbs.

3rd Syd, peg 20 48lbs.

Risby Open Match Folly 13th April

Saturday 13th April 2024

Risby Open Match on Folly.

The weather gods decided to kick us all in the nuts again.

Strong winds were forecast, but supposedly “NO rain”… yeah right… it rained for probably 75% of the day and was heavy at times with storm force winds bellowing down the lake !

Anyway, nothing could dampen Ricky Smith’s spirits, as despite quite a late pick and choosing peg 5, (which most of the regulars consider a weaker peg), he absolutely emptied it!!

Ricky caught quality carp with fish ranging from 4lbs to 10lbs throughout the day. He finished with a season’s best match weight of 161:09.

Ricky caught the majority of his fish short down his inside margin on 6mm cubes of meat.

In 2nd spot was Roger Edmond, on peg 11, with another superb weight of 118:07.

Roger had some quality skimmers and odd carp early on, before switching to his margins later in the match. It was in the margins that he too located some bigger carp to 8lbs.

Result…

1st Ricky Smith, 161:09, peg 5.

2nd Roger Edmond, peg 11, 118:07.

3rd Willy Eyre, 91:03, peg 3.

4th Rich Willey, 83:05, peg 27.

5th Jason Moody,  63:07, peg 18.

6th Mike Clark, 61:02.

Silvers Match

1st Jason Moody, 38:12, peg 18.

2nd Rich Willey, 30:15.

3rd Roger Edmond, 28:06.

Most lads had a decent day.

The actual average weight per angler was just shy of 70lbs !!

Risby Open Match 6th April 2024 Folly Lake

Saturday 6th April 2024… Risby Open Match on Folly Lake.

Overnight heavy rain and the threat of Storm Kathleen had the lads quaking in their boots at the prospect of a challenging day.
Luckily, though, the weather wasn’t as bad as expected for the first few hours of the match.
Willy Eyre continued his great form at the draw and pulled out first pick. Willy opted to fish end peg 7, (which surprised quite a few!).
Willy set off on his trusted hybrid feeder cast tight across to land 10 quality carp, including a lovely mirror estimated to weigh 16lbs+, together with a few silvers. Willy finished with another cracking weight of 80:14.
However, this was only good enough for second, as finally Robbo got a decent peg, having pulled out 4th pick.
Robbo opted to fish peg 20 and as usual, had everything but the kitchen sink rigged up.
He started on the method, with micros and a 6mm wafter. This produced 3 small carp of approx 4lbs a piece. He then had a few on the waggler with a 6mm pellet set at 3 feet deep.
The wind at this point was increasing, but still not too severe, so he moved onto the pole at 16m towards the dam wall.
This line was absolutely solid, with a carp every put in, eagerly devouring his corn hookbait. Sadly though, with 2 hours of the match remaining, Storm Kathleen hit… and hit hard !!!
It was impossible to hold the pole more than 5m, so a change of plan was needed… not just for Robbo, but for everyone fishing the match.
Whilst a few more fish were caught, it was inevitable that the best of the day’s sport had passed. Robbo did manage a few more carp off his short inside line and won the match with the season’s best weight so far of 109:09.
Pully took 3rd spot with 79:07 off peg 27.
Pully’s total included a superb net of skimmers, which was also a season’s best “silvers” bag totalling a fantastic 64:04 !!
Result
1st Robbo 109:09, peg 20.
2nd Willy Eyre, 80:14, peg 7.
3rd Pully, 79:07.
4th Roger Edmond, 55:03, peg 11.
5th Tim Burton, 50:03, peg 25.
6th Mags, 47:12, peg 23.
Silvers Match

Risby Open Match Folly 13th April

Risby Open 30th March Folly Lake

Here’s yesterday’s match result from Folly…

Saturday 30th March 2024, Folly Open Match, (Rover).

Finally, the weather gods decided to treat the Risby Lads to a bright and sunny day. Sadly, though, the previous months’ heavy rain still meant a very muddy, trudge through deep mud to the pegs.

Neil “Cockney” White was 1st out of the bag and opted to fish in-form peg 23.

Cockney started with the method fished tight to the dam wall and had a few early carp.

He then switched to the pole with a bunch of maggots on the hook to land several more carp to 11lbs.

He was unlucky to lose approx 7 carp, including 2 doubles at the net for his final weight of 75:14, which was only good enough for the runner-up spot.

Willy Eyre took the top spot by fishing peg 1 and had a superb net of the stockies, that were put in November, together with a few better carp totalling 99lbs 4oz.

Willy had a few on the hybrid method feeder, before changing tactics to the pole at 16 metres.

In 3rd place was Jason Moody with another lovely net of fish totalling 74lbs 8oz off peg 16.

Jason absolutely blitzed the silvers match with a fantastic net of skimmers totalling 57lbs 15oz.

Geoff Boycott took 4th with 69lbs 5oz off peg 9. Boyx fished the method across with a 6mm “chocolate orange” 6mm wafter before swapping over to the pole to add a few more skimmers and carp.

Result

1st Willy 99:04.

2nd Cockney 75:14

3rd Jason 74:8.

4th Boyx 69:5.
